The New Stuff

Essence of Christmas

Crucial One..
Today's Christmas is no longer a celebration of Christ and happiness, but is a celebration of a now fake, commercialized, overweight Santa Claus. The idea of eating yet another turkey dinner while watching a forgettable Disney movie on television brings tears of pain, not joy, to one's eyes. The main virtues of the holidays have gone from an idealistic white wonderland, to a migraine-causing festival of greed.
Christmas was once a beautiful celebration of the birth of Christ. Families would come together to enjoy the holidays together in a peaceful, loving environment. Children ran around in a pine scented home, clamoring over the presents that Santa had brought the night before. Even if the family was struggling, children would appreciate the hard work and thought put into each gift. At night mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters would curl beside a blazing fire and watch a classic Christmas movie called, "It's a Wonderful Life". This is what the true spirit of Christmas should be.
For now, Christmas is  not what it used to be. What once was a delightful, Christmas caroling time is now a chaotic, screaming in someone's face nightmare. Relatives avoid each other for fear of actually reliving bad childhood family moments. Children still run around the house clamoring over presents, but not from under a nice smelling pine tree, but from an aluminum death trap waiting to fall over and spit out sparks of electricity. While the children still enjoy this time, they too have lost all sense of the Christmas spirit.

Climate Change

We Find Ways…
Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time. Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions. Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions. Certain human activities have also been identified as significant causes of recent climate change, often referred to as "global warming".
Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate. There is great debate among many people, and sometimes in the news, on whether global warming is real (some call it a hoax). But climate scientists looking at the data and facts agree the planet is warming. While many view the effects of global warming to be more substantial and more rapidly occurring than others do, the scientific consensus on climatic changes related to global warming is that the average temperature of the Earth has risen between 0.4 and 0.8 °C over the past 100 years. The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing, agriculture, and other human activities, are believed to be the primary sources of the global warming that has occurred over the past 50 years. Scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate carrying out global warming research have recently predicted that average global temperatures could increase between 1.4 and 5.8 °C by the year 2100. Changes resulting from global warming may include rising sea levels due to the melting of the polar ice caps, as well as an increase in occurrence and severity of storms and other severe weather events.

The global effect of climate change fully illustrates the fact that currently most environmental threats may be characterized as transnational phenomena. In this case environmentally harmful activities carried out in a particular country or region may have many negative consequences in other countries or regions. For this reason, the efforts to tackle most environmental threats should not be restricted to national level and must be pursued internationally.

Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities

No One is Ahead of…
Imagine the world where people are equal. Social, academic, and political classes are vanished, People with the same mental capabilities sharing land and resources equally. Social life is a reflection of individual relations with people, economy, and education. Just like in the world of matter and atoms, likely atoms bond together and form a stronger element. Discarding the significance of equality among living creatures enforce the stability of the bonds among similar elements. This stability eliminates the chances of bringing together unfavourable elements. A world where the poor cannot challenge the rich or even get along with him is undesired. Seeking the life style where everybody is equal will fasten the progress toward better life; it will eliminate the special cases. In such in equal environment, people will not be treated based on their ethnicity, religion, or physical abilities.

Equality or equal society implies that everyone enjoys the same rights. Everyone is bound by the same laws, has access to the same health care and education, and equal opportunity to employment. Given the diversity in race, social status and economic status in our society, true equality can be difficult to achieve. Depending on our age, we all have specific laws we need to follow in Canada. Some would argue that equality is not as clearly defined within our justice system. Whether we like to admit it or not, we all have our own personal biases. A jury is instructed to only take the facts of the evidence into consideration. However, is this always the case, or are there flaws in this system? Certainly, I feel that it is the best we can offer, but I am not convinced that it demonstrates true equality.

Insights about Intramurals

Spending one's Leisure

Have you ever thought why people do sports? Absolutely, many people seem not to know the reasons. As a anectode, there are many people who do sports for nothing around us. Everyday we can encounter with these people. They regularly do sports; however, none of them realizes the benefits and importance of sports. In fact, vice versa, some people want to be fit and attractive, look smart. Unfortunately, these people can’t consider other benefits of sports. In my opinion, there are several benefits of sports that people often do not consider: sports are required to be healthy people, are needed for enjoyment, and are great market for countries’ economies.
Sportsmanship, Perfection, Obedience, Respect and Thankfulness; SPORT define as of these characterizations. Intramurals are an organization of sports teams created for students who seek the opportunity to play sports. Those who participate in intramurals range in age, ability, and gender. These sports teams allow students to play a sport they enjoy without committing to a varsity team. Intramurals are designed for everyone to have fun but still have a competitive edge.

The chief object of sports is, of course, bodily exercise. “A sound mind in a sound body” is a well-known saying. The heath of the body is essential for success in life. An unhealthy man is always sad, gloomy ad therefore loses confidence in him. To keep healthy, one must take an active interest in sports. Thus sports serve an essential purpose in life because they ensure good health and build a fine physique. If one is bodily fit, one feels capable of hard endeavour and life without endeavour is useless. The great advantage of sports is that they combine exercise with trill, excitement and sensations. In order that we should readily take exercise it should be made interesting and, as everybody knows, practically all kinds of games devised by man possess a certain degree of interest.
Sports are an excellent means of spending one’s leisure. All work and no play make jack adult boy. Sports are much interesting pastime. Most of the games are quite inexpensive too.

Science Club Month Celebration

Immunation: IMMUNization,ammunizATION
Science, technology and innovation played a major role in building great nations, spreading global modernization and shaping the world where we live. Other countries used those as stepping stones to attain success, why can’t we?
All educational institutions across the country, from preschools to tertiary schools, celebrated the National Science Club Month (NSCM) during the month of September. This year’s theme, Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Towards National Wellness, goal is to immune science clubbers through diseases.
The theme rationale is a play on words on ammunition and immunization. We would like our science clubbers to be armed/ to be immune against diseases through imparting knowledge about disease, how they spread, etc. Our goal is not only the science clubbers that benefit from this knowledge but also their school and communities and thus leading to national wellness.
I hope that the message would leave a mark in our minds. We, the holders of the future of this nation will be the ones who will start the innovation in our own, different ways. We should make this country a smarter one and if we really want to do it, we must make a move now.

My Teacher, My Hero

Countless Definitions
"No one saves us but we ourselves-no one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path, teachers merely show the way."
Gone were the days when we spent our late nights indulging in comic books featuring our generation’s greatest heroes, sneaking past our bedtime to read Superman’s latest issue under the sheets while holding a flashlight, running around the house with our fists in the air and a cape zooming through our backs. Nowadays, all we have our noses stuck on are the not-so-thrilling sagas of Captain Algebra on Planet Geometry, Fantastic Physics and Heinous History, much to our dismay.
“There goes my hero, watch him as he go”. Foo Fighters’ song My Hero keep playing in my head as Mrs. Vera Cruz talks about the construction of dissertations regarding Teachers. What else can we think of when teachers are mentioned? Their understanding, hardships, advices and care for us students. And of course, lectures, new lessons, quizzes and assignments! Those memories when they came about to tell stories and jokes with us students. Their “sermons” to us during times when we were disobedient, or lazy to pass our assignments. It’s their continuous patience and hard works for us that make them our hero.
“Grabe, sobrang terror ni Sir! Lalo na yung si Madam sa isang subject ko! Hay!” phrase that somehow bugs me out knowing that teachers only do their jobs to help their students. They are there to guide us on our studies and not to mislead us to the wrong path. No teacher wanted her/his student to be in the wrong direction, right? That’s why we are celebrating teachers’ day to commemorate how patient they are in teaching the knowledge they have that we students need inside and outside the school. Let us give time to our dear teachers to relax once and make them feel how special they are as a mentor.
Our second parents, our teachers have helped a lot in the contribution of our success. They will forever be a treasure. This teacher’s day was a good way of expressing gratitude to our beloved teachers whom are the reason why we have accomplished most of what we have accomplished until the present.

"Each man must look to himself to teach him the meaning of life. It is not something discovered. It is something molded." -- Antoine De Saint-Exupery

Modern Hero

Who is Worthy to be Called a Hero?

The question remains: Who is worthy to be called a hero?  The heroics of today are mistakenly seen in the eyes of the people as, mutant super beings in capes and masks as portrayed in Hollywood, as opposed to what being a hero really means. Throughout history,  many people have stepped up to the challenges of leading a nation to independence, guiding a nation through turmoil, rising to the occasion to defend his or her sacred beliefs, or by simply putting their lives on the line every day to protect and secure the safety of others. These individuals, by their bravery and determination, have set their mark in their society and the people’s hearts around them as well. Despite the bravery these individuals face, there are other types of heroes as well. Heroes can be in anyway, even in each of individuals in the world. I have the persons who I think is the best hero in my mind. They are my parents.
Every time I look at my parents or even think of them, pride overwhelms me. My life and world is all thanks to them. I especially admire their determination during the despondent whiles. Without them, I am nothing in this world. Ones, they grieve all the complications intended by having offsprings and yet, they go on and accept the God’s blessing for them. One thing more, parents never leave us behind for they always think of what’s best for their children. With that simple exertions, they are accurate to be called “HERO”.
Heroes always change in our mind as we grow. As a child, we think Hercules, Xena, superheroes, imaginary friends, comics', and cartoons' heroes as the real heroes. As we grow older, our opinions keep changing from time to time. We begin to think about the real things, about what heroes really are. And that’s made me thought that my parents are indeed my great hero.

Iisang Wika

Isang kultura, puno't dulo ng kalayaan
Ina at dahilan ng pagkakaisa at ng kasarinlan
Wikang Filipino ang siyang pangalan
Sanhi ng pagkakasundo't maging ang pagtutulungan

Salitang gamit ng lahat
Upang mga taksil ay maisiwalat
Luzon, Visayas, sa lahat ng lugar
Wika ng pagkakaisa ang siyang nabubulgar

Sapagkat ang wika'y, siyang tumanglaw
Sa bansang tahanang ating tinatanaw
Instrumentong hatid ay pag-uunawaan,
Wika ng kapayapaan, hatid ay bayanihan

Panlahat na wika saan man bumagtas
Bayang sinakop, nagsilbi itong lunas
Lakas ng Pilipino sa tuwid na landas
Wikang Filipino, kayamana't hiyas.

Reflection

Molding Innovative Creation

Everyone has their own expectations, hopes, and fears about their senior year of high school. My senior year has contained all of the above and more. This year has taught me many things; such as, leadership, time management, and appreciation for the teachers in my life. Perhaps, some people expect more out of this vital year. As for me, I could not appreciate it more.

I may still be in the first few pages of my senior year but just like every other book, a lot could happen. ICT tends to leave me mentally bushed. The subject covers the cyber world. Learning about the cyber world was indeed an excitement for me. I learned all about the internet and how to fiddle with weblogs.

Seems like problems have been my only workmate whenever I come across with the deeds to be consummate. I find hard to manage my time due to bursting tasks I have. I am used to do things with urgent. It is then the reason why I am challenged to sort some adjustments.

I don't know why I have this kind of attitude but I'm better in doing my work when I'm rushing it, either it's just a day away or hours away from the deadline. Maybe it's because of the burden that my mind gets to work firmer than the consistent or so. Hence I conclude that I've conceded those trials.

Learning from the mistakes I’ve done made me become a better one. I would never intend to commit the same mistakes next quarter.  I’ll study harder and set higher goals. I’ll still dream because the dreams won’t wait. I’ll continue to chase them.

Reaction about the 5th SONA of Pres. Benigno Aquino III

Sored of Innocence?
Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.”-Colin Powell

July 28, 2014: A transformation was again compromise at Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon during the deliveration of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA). The country’s economy, public works, education and many other agendas concerned were the talk revolves around.
His excellence then said, all of the funds went to the places they are supposed to go. He didn’t admit any major problems like corruption. The controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program was not sinking deeper by him yet he merely received a notable mention with slight defense on it.
With do all respect, our president’s SONA was something unbelievable. I myself don’t believe that he must exempt from the PDAF controversy. He maybe the President of this country but if he’s not guilty enough, he may also undergo investigation. Not just putting fingers on others like he is sored of innocent on it.

It is not unconstitutional to use his Executive Privilege to disburse funds the way he sees fit, or where it is needed for the benefit of the public. We, Filipinos must perceive what he is doing for the country and its people, if it’s not maybe you are blind of jealousy, hate, corrupt or maybe just simply stupid.

Insights about the Nutrition Month Theme

“Kalamidad paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan”

“Life is a tragedy of nutrition”
 Arnold Ehret

Nutrition is always the highlight every month of July for it is considered as the Nutrition month. It is celebrated in the entire Philippines whereas different activities are implemented. Today’s nutrition month theme is ““Kalamidad paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan” which is in connection to the disaster preparedness program of the government.
This theme makes thought that it is really made for us to store foods, most especially fruits and vegetables in preparation for the disasters if ever. Malnutrition and starvation are some serious problems which arise after every catastrophe. It is why I support today’s theme because this is one way to reduce the number of underfed and deprivations in our country. It is then prompted to conduct activities for the welfare of those who has lack of knowledge about adversity awareness. Subsequently, self-confidence as well as skills will be developed through expression of hidden abilities.
The 2014 Nutrition Month Theme aims to uphold interventions in addressing the nutrition needs of the Filipinos extending from preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation phases. It also aims to trigger appropriate, coherent and timely response from the Nutrition Cluster at all levels. Moreover, it stresses a public responsibility to develop an attitude of “I am ready” especially among the most nutritionally vulnerable population and hazard-prone areas in the country. It is believed that underpinning nutrition awareness is a great key to better prepare and efficiently respond to Nutrition in Emergencies!

Letter to the President

Mr. President:
Greetings with high hopes and aspirations to you Sir!
Poverty had always been the worst problem in our society. It's been how many years since this problem get worse. According to my observation, the administration needs a long time in searching solutions for the progress of our civilization. But, didn't you notice that we need instant solutions just to reduce the level of poverty in our country.
Some commentators claimed that unemployment is one cause of Poverty. If only we can find abrupt way to enrich the number of job offerings, jobless individuals will then have greater chances in having their jobs.
As a Filipino Citizen, I am unease about the welfare of my fellow men as well as the of our economy.
Hoping for your immediate action with regards to my concerns.

               Thank you and good day!

Sincerely yours,
Abbygail Rabang
