Insight: Ylocos Kannawidan Festival

SURE! Ilocos Sur ...

Ilocos Sur has a rich heritage and unique culture that are to be preserved for the next generations because it is observed that many of these traditions, songs, dances and other Ilocano culture are not familiar to the younger generations already. Children of today are paying more attention to the modern and novelty dances they seen on the television than the traditional ones. There is also a need to evaluate the different products of the different municipalities and the agricultural products and livestock of the farmers and fisher folks. Because of this, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur conceived a festival that will highlight these culture and traditions and attract local and foreign tourists as well. They call it the KANNAWIDAN Ylocos Festival; it is also a time to commemorate the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province since it was separated on February 3, 1818.

KANNAWIDAN is an Ilocano term which means “a feast of all heritages, practices and products” in Ilocos Sur. This year will be its 195th anniversary. The celebration formulates various activities wherein its main thrust is tourism promotion through the presentation of talents, native costumes, traditions, cultures and products that is definitely Ilocos Sur. Exposing these heritages to others will definitely strengthen its demand thus further generating job opportunities and more income to the communities in the province. This week-long festivity, which is principally sponsored by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, currently headed by Governor Ryan Luis Singson, aims to develop the province into an economically-strengthened community and to in still pride in its citizenry with their very rich heritage.

These include traditional tribal rituals, choir and glee club competition, marching band contest, traditional music ensemble, dance drama, traditional and folk dances, contemporary dance competition and street dancing showdown. These events aimed to encourage young Ilocanos to learn these indigenous songs and dances for sustainability and preservation. This Kannawidan Ylocos Festival aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province’ rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products. We, Ilocanos should all be proud of with this because we are having this for tourists to appreciate our rich culture. Moreover, let us all preserve these cultures for next generations and this will serve as our trademark as an Ilocano. All of these are evidence that the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is already becoming a fast rising festival in the country as shown by the number of participants and tourists who flocked and become a part of the festival. Kannawidan indeed is an attraction because it showcases the culture of Ilocanos that made them distinct from other ethnic groups of the Philippines.

Reflection

An Ought to An End

I am now in the remaining pages of my senior year but just like every other book, a lot could happen. ICT tends to leave me mentally bushed. The subject covers the cyber world. Learning about the cyber world was indeed an excitement for me. I learned all about the internet and how to fiddle with weblogs.

Seems like problems have been my only workmate whenever I come across with the deeds to be consummate. At first , I found  hard to manage my time due to bursting tasks I have. I am used to do things with urgent. It is then the reason why I am challenged to sort some adjustments. This maybe the reason why I ended up hanging to those things I didn’t accomplish due to time shortage. It is then my hardest page in my senior life but it serves as my new research work. Why? Because it is my goal to urge for a way out of this nightmare of mine.

Learning from the mistakes I’ve done made me become a better one. I would never intend to commit the same mistakes next quarter.  I’ll study harder and set higher goals. I’ll still dream because the dreams won’t wait. I’ll continue to chase them.

Ever-Changing World

It is a big concerned for teenagers nowadays as they are unaware of the importance of English language as they tend to ignore to learn the language. Students’ attitude towards the language is also crucial to make sure that these teenagers can face the future world better by learning English language as it is an international language. Although the government has repeatedly told us of the importance of English, many students are still not bothered about studying it seriously. There are many reasons why you should study the language properly. First and foremost, English will definitely help you a lot when you want to further studies.

Literature is the foundation of life. It places an emphasis on many topics from human tragedies to tales of the ever-popular search for love. While it is physically written in words, these words come alive in the imagination of the mind, and its ability to comprehend the complexity or simplicity of the text. Literature enables people to see through the lenses of others, and sometimes even inanimate objects; therefore, it becomes a looking glass into the world as others view it. It is a journey that is inscribed in pages, and powered by the imagination of the reader. Ultimately, literature has provided a gateway to teach the reader about life experiences from even the saddest stories to the most joyful ones that will touch their hearts. Physically speaking, it is impossible to be someone else. It is impossible to switch bodies with another human being, and it is impossible to completely understand the complexity of their world. Literature, as an alternative, is the closest thing the world has to being able to understand another person whole-heartedly. For stance, a novel about a treacherous war, written in the perspective of a soldier, allows the reader to envision their memories, their pain, and their emotions without actually being that person. Consequently, literature can act as a time machine, enabling individuals to go into a specific time period of the story, into the mind and soul of the protagonist. With the ability to see the world with a pair of fresh eyes, it triggers the reader to reflect upon their own lives. Reading a material that is relatable to the reader may teach them morals and encourage them to practice good judgement. This can be proven through public school systems, where the books that are emphasized the most tend to have a moral-teaching purpose behind the story.

The world today is ever-changing. Never before has life been so chaotic and challenging for all. Life before literature was practical and predictable, but in present day, literature has expanded into countless libraries and into the minds of many as the gateway for comprehension and curiosity of the human mind and the world around them. Literature is of great importance and is studied upon as it provides the ability to connect human relationships, and define what is right and what is wrong. Therefore, words are alive more than ever before.

New Year, New Me

Seek for a Change

Goodbye to the memories of 2014 and hello to my new chapter, 2015.! Neither happy nor sad memories turn into ashes in just glimpse of an eye. As days goes by and clock ticks before the midnight of December 31st, my minds starts to think of the past realizing what I’ve done right nor wrong to my life. Looking back at the times where we are having a lovely evening as we wait for the New Year and it is even priceless.

My life has to move forward for the betterment of my future which is guided by my dreams and wishes. In this year, foregoing for laziness, jealousy and even focusing on my own priorities, my studies. More responsible enough in all aspects of life and specially to pay more attention to my family's need by means of looking after my niece and my younger brother. From my past experiences I have learned a lot of things especially in the aspects of life itself, which made me came up with ideas which are now made into my promises. Another new regarding with me is having the new haircut as a sign of my new life.

Whatever happens in the year 2014, let it be a learning and a reason to move forward. Wishing a better year this 2015 and blessings to treasure. Happy New Year!
