The New Stuff

My Teacher, My Hero

Countless Definitions
"No one saves us but we ourselves-no one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path, teachers merely show the way."
Gone were the days when we spent our late nights indulging in comic books featuring our generation’s greatest heroes, sneaking past our bedtime to read Superman’s latest issue under the sheets while holding a flashlight, running around the house with our fists in the air and a cape zooming through our backs. Nowadays, all we have our noses stuck on are the not-so-thrilling sagas of Captain Algebra on Planet Geometry, Fantastic Physics and Heinous History, much to our dismay.
“There goes my hero, watch him as he go”. Foo Fighters’ song My Hero keep playing in my head as Mrs. Vera Cruz talks about the construction of dissertations regarding Teachers. What else can we think of when teachers are mentioned? Their understanding, hardships, advices and care for us students. And of course, lectures, new lessons, quizzes and assignments! Those memories when they came about to tell stories and jokes with us students. Their “sermons” to us during times when we were disobedient, or lazy to pass our assignments. It’s their continuous patience and hard works for us that make them our hero.
“Grabe, sobrang terror ni Sir! Lalo na yung si Madam sa isang subject ko! Hay!” phrase that somehow bugs me out knowing that teachers only do their jobs to help their students. They are there to guide us on our studies and not to mislead us to the wrong path. No teacher wanted her/his student to be in the wrong direction, right? That’s why we are celebrating teachers’ day to commemorate how patient they are in teaching the knowledge they have that we students need inside and outside the school. Let us give time to our dear teachers to relax once and make them feel how special they are as a mentor.
Our second parents, our teachers have helped a lot in the contribution of our success. They will forever be a treasure. This teacher’s day was a good way of expressing gratitude to our beloved teachers whom are the reason why we have accomplished most of what we have accomplished until the present.

"Each man must look to himself to teach him the meaning of life. It is not something discovered. It is something molded." -- Antoine De Saint-Exupery

Modern Hero

Who is Worthy to be Called a Hero?

The question remains: Who is worthy to be called a hero?  The heroics of today are mistakenly seen in the eyes of the people as, mutant super beings in capes and masks as portrayed in Hollywood, as opposed to what being a hero really means. Throughout history,  many people have stepped up to the challenges of leading a nation to independence, guiding a nation through turmoil, rising to the occasion to defend his or her sacred beliefs, or by simply putting their lives on the line every day to protect and secure the safety of others. These individuals, by their bravery and determination, have set their mark in their society and the people’s hearts around them as well. Despite the bravery these individuals face, there are other types of heroes as well. Heroes can be in anyway, even in each of individuals in the world. I have the persons who I think is the best hero in my mind. They are my parents.
Every time I look at my parents or even think of them, pride overwhelms me. My life and world is all thanks to them. I especially admire their determination during the despondent whiles. Without them, I am nothing in this world. Ones, they grieve all the complications intended by having offsprings and yet, they go on and accept the God’s blessing for them. One thing more, parents never leave us behind for they always think of what’s best for their children. With that simple exertions, they are accurate to be called “HERO”.
Heroes always change in our mind as we grow. As a child, we think Hercules, Xena, superheroes, imaginary friends, comics', and cartoons' heroes as the real heroes. As we grow older, our opinions keep changing from time to time. We begin to think about the real things, about what heroes really are. And that’s made me thought that my parents are indeed my great hero.
